Episode 239: Are We Soulmates???

(00:00)

SARAH: Hey, what's up, hello. Welcome to Sounds Fake, But Okay a podcast where an aroace girl  I'm Sarah, that's me

KAYLA: and a bi demisexual girl, that's me Kayla.

SARAH: Talk about all things to do with love, relationships, sexuality, and pretty much anything else we just don't understand.

KAYLA: On today's episode. Are we soulmates?

SARAH: Sounds, oh wait.

KAYLA: Whoa.

SARAH: Are you ready?

KAYLA: Yeah.

SARAH AND KAYLA: Sounds fake, but okay.

SARAH: Well, that audio is live.

KAYLA: Oh, no.

SARAH: (laughing) That was live

(theme music)

SARAH: Welcome back to the pod. Wait, now I'm too far away because I was like, oh, we were yelling. Welcome back to the pod.

KAYLA: It's live.

SARAH: And in concert.

KAYLA: And in concert. And we can say things at the same time now and look deeply into each other's eyes.

SARAH: What's in there?

KAYLA: I don't know what eyeballs are made of, so.

SARAH: Brains.

KAYLA: Hmm.

SARAH: Hi.

KAYLA: Can I ask you a question before we get started?

SARAH: Yeah.

KAYLA: I've been asking this question to a lot of people lately and I've not gotten the response I've been looking for.

SARAH: Okay.

KAYLA: Can I ask you for your eyeball to put in my stew? Would you give it to me?

SARAH: You can have the bad one.

KAYLA: Oh my God. You’re the only person that said yes to me.

SARAH: It wouldn't really, because my – I already have a bad peripheral vision. So it's like, what's losing and I going to do? You know? Nothing.

KAYLA: Make it worse, but.

SARAH: But not really. It's fine.

KAYLA: Wow.

SARAH: Yeah.

KAYLA: I finally have an eyeball for my stew.

SARAH: There's a frog in my hands. Can you hold it for me?

KAYLA: No.

SARAH: Thanks.

KAYLA: I saw a TikTok that was like, there's a frog in my hand. It's going to do a flip, but you have to watch it. Okay.

SARAH: I think I saw this.

KAYLA: And then she was like, you have to hold its hat. And he was like, how is it doing a flip the first time if it was wearing a hat? And she was like, you idiot. You really thought the frog was doing a flip. There's a frog in my hand.

SARAH: I also saw that. Very good.

KAYLA: Yeah.

SARAH: Anyway. Housekeeping buy our book. soundsfakepod.com/book

KAYLA: Hmm. It's almost time.

SARAH: It's almost time.

KAYLA: Which is horrifying to me.

SARAH: And me

KAYLA: and my therapist if we're being honest.

SARAH: (laughing) Rip to Kayla's therapist.

KAYLA: Honestly, she's made good money off this book. I feel like, anyway.

SARAH: Now, maybe we should make good money off this book so that it can be worth it for your therapist.

KAYLA: So true. That's actually I was literally thinking the other day. I was like I feel like the reason see they give you advances when you write a book you get money before you write it

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: and I was like I feel like the biggest reason they should give advances is so you can pay for your therapy bill

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: for how shit it is.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: To do a book.

SARAH: I Think everyone should write a book

KAYLA: Why?

SARAH: I don't think that

KAYLA: I don't either. OKAY

SARAH: but then they would know the feeling, you know, that's then they would understand

KAYLA: That's something me my therapist talk about a lot is like these people can be a shit about your book but they've never written a book.

SARAH: You know who’s written a book?

KAYLA: not my therapist

SARAH: John Green

KAYLA: okay, and?

SARAH: and J. A. R. J. A. R.

KAYLA: Jar Jar Binks Jar Jar Binks?

SARAH: I was gonna say Tolkien Tolkien Tolkien,

KAYLA: Mhm but I said Jar Tolkien. Anyway. Kayla, what are we talking about this week?

KAYLA: This week I thought it was about time that we find out if we're soul mates

SARAH: Mm-hmm. We've definitely talked about so we did a whole

KAYLA: Episode I think like recently sure I don't I think

SARAH: who knows time is a flat circle and nothing is real

KAYLA; But that's not what we're doing this week.

SARAH: No this week. We are finding out once and for all once and for all if we are one another soul mates now

KAYLA: We also did back in the day when we were in college. We did the 36 questions to fall in love to fall in love didn't really work

SARAH: No, but does it but does it work if you're already in love?

KAYLA: You know, that's actually a really good question compelling questions

SARAH: Mm-hmm.

KAYLA: So we're gonna find out if we're soul mates, right? And so what do we have a plan in place for if we find out we aren't?

SARAH: kill

KAYLA: Who? each other?

Yeah, okay, let's start with marriage.com

Okay, wow starting off really strong, okay this article

(05:00)

KAYLA: everyone

SARAH: Everyone

KAYLA: everyone has a soul mate. Oh with whom we share a strong bond.

SARAH: Okay

KAYLA: Some people have found their soulmate already and they're experiencing the beautiful feeling of love. Every hour spent with the soulmate seems to feel like minutes

SARAH: Well every hour is 60 minutes

KAYLA: Mhm

SARAH: Also, I apologize for the chair creaking. What are you gonna do? These were my grandma's chairs. You're gonna yell at my grandma? She's dead

KAYLA: God. You can yell at the haunted dolls and in this room instead.

SARAH: Yeah, you I think you've talked at length about every time we record here

KAYLA: Yeah, it is in this room and I do discuss the haunted dolls Sarah's mom told me that they weren't haunted. She then directly after told me that Grammy made a dress for one of the dolls.

SARAH: It's Grammy's chair, too

KAYLA: And what I told Sarah's beautiful mother Julie is that if someone named Grammy makes a doll a dress. It's definitely that doll is haunted.

SARAH: You take it up with Janet. Okay, cuz Janet is Grammy

KAYLA: Well, Janet's alive though.

SARAH: No

KAYLA: nope that’s the other one

SARAH: Janet died our freshman year.

KAYLA: I was thinking of the other one Karen

SARAH: Karen. I saw Karen today

KAYLA: Why is Dean calling me? Should I put Dean live?

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: Hello you’re live on the podcast

DEAN: Oh, really?

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: what's up?

KAYLA: What are you doing? Walking?

DEAN: Going home for dinner

KAYLA: No. Getting Coney Island

DEAN: Wow

KAYLA: Yeah

DEAN: Your mom asked if I wanted to get No Time and I told her you would not be happy

KAYLA: I will be ruining everyone's life if that happens. I guess you could get it and I could eat it for lunch tomorrow

DEAN: Well either that or we get it tomorrow. What would you prefer?

KAYLA: We can just get it tomorrow

DEAN: Okay. Have a good podcast. Hi, Sarah

SARAH: Hi! I hope you enjoyed playing.

KAYLA: Oh, no

SARAH: Oh I was going to say, I hope you're playing catch with Kayla's dad.

KAYLA: Yeah, Dean played catch with my dad today

SARAH: Anyway, that has been a look.

KAYLA: Oh, and he's calling back. Yes?

DEAN: That was on accident. Was Sarah saying something?

KAYLA: Yes

SARAH: I was just saying that I hoped you enjoyed your time playing catch with Kevin today

DEAN: Oh yeah. It was a wholesome time

KAYLA: Good

DEAN: Giving him the son he always wanted to play catch with

KAYLA: Yeah, exactly.

SARAH: Yeah, I'm happy for you

DEAN: Kayla’s hands are too tiny to grip the ball

SARAH: That's true could deflate it like Brady.

KAYLA: Mm-hmm.

DEAN: Am I still being recorded?

SARAH: (laughing) Yep

DEAN: Oh okay cool. Really good content.

SARAH: Yeah, it's a real behind-the-scenes, you know

DEAN: What are we talking about today?

KAYLA: Your mom

DEAN: Really?

KAYLA: Mm-hmm that’s kind of surprising

SARAH: Dean, how would you feel if me and Kayla were soulmates?

DEAN: Uh… I uh…

SARAH: He's speechless.

DEAN: I thought, aren’t you already?

KAYLA: Okay, what would you do if we found out we weren't soulmates, me and Sarah?

DEAN: I’d be a little surprised

SARAH: Mkay

KAYLA: Okay

DEAN: Probably a little bummed

KAYLA: Yeah, a little bummed

SARAH: Great answer

(laughter)

SARAH: Shucks

KAYLA: Shucks, thank you so much. Goodbye

DEAN: Bye

(phone disconnecting sound)

KAYLA: That was our correspondent in the field Dean on his reaction if we don't come out as soulmates

SARAH: good. Anyway

KAYLA: Anyway, do you wish to know if you have found your soulmate?

SARAH: Sure

KAYLA: take our are we soulmates quiz now?

SARAH: Mm-hmm.

KAYLA: Oh. Do we have to like keep track of? Wait, how does this work? There's just a and start quiz. Okay, are you comfortable talking about your problems?

SARAH: Sure

KAYLA: Yeah. whoa. No, this no, there's so many they're trying to give me a virus. You can almost tell what your soulmate is thinking

SARAH: Okay

KAYLA: but this is presuming. We're already soulmates.

SARAH: Okay on three

KAYLA: It's like the tiktoks.

SARAH: We're gonna say we're gonna say oh

KAYLA: the same word?

SARAH: Yeah, we're gonna say something.

KAYLA: Okay. Are you ready?

SARAH: one two three

KAYLA: Petunia

SARAH: Mashed potatoes

KAYLA: Okay, we can do it new one. Ready?

(10:00)

SARAH: No, I'm not ready. I don't know what to say.

KAYLA: No, but base it on the words that we just said. Okay, we just you said mashed potatoes. I said petunia.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: so where do we think we could go next? I have one.

SARAH: I don't

KAYLA: I'm telling it to you in my mind.

SARAH: Okay

KAYLA: Ready?

SARAH: it's this is gonna be wrong

KAYLA: three two one

SARAH: Carrots

KAYLA: Turkey, okay, but we're close now. We can do this. Ready?

SARAH: Yeah, we can't repeat any of them, right?

KAYLA: No, okay ready? Yeah, three two one

SARAH: Cranberry

KAYLA: Corn. I’ve run out of Thanksgiving vegetables

SARAH: Okay, okay, I have one.

KAYLA: You have it? Yeah. Yeah, okay,

SARAH AND KAYLA: three two one

SARAH: green beans

KAYLA: Stuffing. Fuck.

SARAH: Okay, okay, okay, you have it.

KAYLA: Yeah, I don't I'm not

SARAH: okay. It's okay. I have it. Okay, three two one

KAYLA: Casserole

SARAH: Bread

KAYLA: I'm gonna have to put no

SARAH: Dang it

KAYLA: I have to answer no

SARAH: (laughing) Okay

KAYLA: Do you have a lot in common? Yes, we seem to like the same things. No, we don't have a lot of common

SARAH: What are your thoughts on Korean pop stars?

KAYLA: they seem nice.

SARAH: Okay. What are their names?

KAYLA: (sighs) Okay

SARAH: What are the names of the BTS members live on

KAYLA: usually I get to write it. I don't have any pen or paper. Jimin.

SARAH: mm-hmm

KAYLA: J-Hope

SARAH: mm-hmm

KAYLA: RM

SARAH: mm-hmm. Mm-hmm

KAYLA: Jin

SARAH: mm-hmm

KAYLA: J crew. But the problem is now I can't read what I've already said

SARAH: you can write it in your phone

KAYLA: I guess. Okay, these are the note I have up is my what I have in the dabloons

SARAH: Okay, if you know, you know if you know you don't

KAYLA: J hope, RM, Jin

SARAH: mm-hmm

KAYLA: Don't look at me. How many, seven?

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: I have all the J ones right?

SARAH: No, there's one more

KAYLA: Have got to be stopped

SARAH: Who's my bias

KAYLA: I don't know I never know sugar

SARAH: that is not his name

KAYLA: sugar

SARAH: Why did you just have an SH sugar. She just spelt it as S-H-U-G-A-R. That's five

KAYLA: There's another J one.

SARAH: Mm-hmm. It's the one you kind of always forget

KAYLA: And it's your bias.

SARAH: He's one of my bias wreckers. He used to the world cup song

KAYLA: That means nothing to me

SARAH: look who we are We are the dreamers.

KAYLA: I don't know. I'm sorry. I've got most of them. Give me a hint

SARAH: One of them is just one letter

KAYLA: V.

SARAH: Yeah, and Jungkook

KAYLA: Well, do I have to say no? I feel like we have a lot in common just not our knowledge of BTS's names

SARAH: Yeah, that's fair

KAYLA: When you are with them, are you always happy?

SARAH: I think that is an unrealistic expectation

KAYLA: And here's my thing is that because I feel comfortable around you. I feel comfortable being sad with you

SARAH: Also, we're business partners, which means that everything is always bad

KAYLA: sad a lot of the time

SARAH: So I guess we have

KAYLA AND SARAH: no

SARAH: not always

KAYLA: That shouldn't be a thing.

SARAH: Yeah marriage.com. What are you doing?

KAYLA: Do you share a deep bond with them? Yes, it's so deep. No, you have not felt any bond. SARAH: Well, those are two very different answers.

KAYLA: I know I feel like we have a bond

SARAH: sure

KAYLA: Do you always help each other?

SARAH: No

KAYLA: No

SARAH: Like what if I asked you to like murder someone and it would help me?

KAYLA: Yeah, I would do that

SARAH: Well, who what if it what if it what if I was

KAYLA: Well who is it you want me to murder?

SARAH: I don't know. It's a good question What if I was like, I need you to murder – everything I think of it's just so horrible.

(laughter) What if I was like, I need you to murder Joe Biden FBI, this is a joke for legal purposes.

KAYLA: Here's my thing is that like I I feel LIKE No, I don't think I can't yeah

SARAH: you can't physically do that.

KAYLA: It's really hard for my first murder too.

SARAH: Yeah, that's a lot. That's really fair

Here. Okay, the question the answer so the question was do you always help each other?

Yes, you want the best for your soulmate. No, not all the time. It depends on our mood

SARAH: Help each other help each other is so broad.

(15:00)

KAYLA: It's so broad and also helping each other does not it's not the same as wanting the best for someone.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: because what if they're like help me do crack cocaine? Yeah, no,

SARAH: no

KAYLA: I'm not gonna do that because that's not best for you. Help me acquire an AR-15.

SARAH AND KAYLA: No

KAYLA: I'm gonna say yes. Well I'm gonna say yes

SARAH: Okay Probably cuz I feel I don't think you would ever ask me to help you with crack cocaine. That's no

KAYLA: Yeah, I feel like when we actually need help then the other person helps, but if you're like do this random thing I'm like, no. Are you always at peace when you are together?

SARAH: I think this is an unrealistic expectation

No, this is I would not describe our relationship as peaceful. No,

SARAH: Oh we were supposed to punch each other.

KAYLA: Oh, yeah

Wait, I should get up. Oh

SARAH: Oh, I was gonna do it slow motion

KAYLA; Punch thank you

KAYLA; Um, I would not describe our relationship as peaceful. No

SARAH: No

KAYLA: All right, so no. I came in to Sarah's house and we pretty immediately just kind of laid on the floor. Yeah. We were just kind of stimming to be honest

SARAH: Yeah, classic group stim

KAYLA: Do you both easily apologize to each other?

SARAH: What do we have to apologize for?

KAYLA: Nothing we’re perfect.

SARAH: I know

KAYLA: No, well, yes, but no because we don't have to I'll just say yes

SARAH: okay.

KAYLA: Do you talk for hours and spend time to time time together? Yes, you always want to talk. No, you get tired and bored quickly.

SARAH: Those are not those are not the same thing

KAYLA: Those aren’t the answer to the question.

SARAH: Because we’re introverts

KAYLA: Do you because – it's do you talk and this is do you always want to talk. Yeah, that's not

that's not equivalent, but I guess yes

SARAH: Because we do annoy each other for long so no

Lots of time or yet. Yes. Yes. We do talk.

SARAH: Yes, even though I don't always want to because I'm an introvert

KAYLA: This just in Sarah hates talking.

SARAH: (laughing) Yeah

KAYLA: Do you trust and care for each other? Yes, you are not sure

SARAH: What if someone's like I'm very sure that no

KAYLA: There's not an option. I mean I trust you.

SARAH: Yeah. I feel like these questions aren't good

KAYLA: Do you both have similar life goals? I don't think you need that to be a soulmate.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: I mean like the goals for having like a child if it's a romantic soulmate then like yeah, that should probably be in common

SARAH: Yeah. And like if one person is like I want to colonize the moon and another person is like

KAYLA: I want to colonize mars.

SARAH: I want to colonize Mars then that's gonna be a problem for you. That's a really long distance.

KAYLA: That's a really long distance relationship.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: I feel like no but they're not so different that it's like. It's not like we have nothing in common.

SARAH: Yeah, but like

KAYLA: But like our careers aren't the same

SARAH: No, but imagine if you could only be like married to someone who had the same career as you.

KAYLA: I feel like you probably shouldn't yeah to that.

SARAH: I was I was talking to to my friend recently about how they don't – this person like does acting like sort of and they were saying that they don't like dating other actors

KAYLA: No, because then you're like comparing yourself.

SARAH: Yeah all the time

KAYLA: I know someone who like music is their like hobby and their ex-partner like music was their profession

SARAH: Mmm, not good.

KAYLA: No, bad.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: What should I say?

SARAH: I don't know. Maybe close your eyes and just

KAYLA: What did I click?

SARAH: She said no.

KAYLA: (laughing) Oh shit

KAYLA: Are you both comfortable with the silence between you and them? Yes, or rarely. Yeah, I love silence. Whoa. I don't like that. That was an adversarial silence. They're just staring at me

That's that was I didn't like that. Do you feel like you've known them forever?

SARAH: I'm gonna say yeah, because people thought that we didn't know each other forever when we first first met

KAYLA: Dating together when people were dating. Did you feel an instant connection?

SARAH: Yeah, sure

KAYLA: We were in love at first sight. Have they changed you for the better? I feel like your mental illnesses have gone into my brain

SARAH: Cool. You're welcome

KAYLA: which isn't good

SARAH: I feel like. Yeah, that's it.

KAYLA: I'm gonna say yes.

SARAH: (laughing) Yeah, I think

KAYLA: See my results. Oh no! Okay, it says we’re not soulmates at all.

SARAH: Well, it says perhaps you haven't found your soulmate yet, but perhaps is not certain.

(20:00)

KAYLA: That's true. Damn. Using AI, this quiz will show you what your soulmate looks like

SARAH: Okay

KAYLA: Okay, we can do it for each of us.

SARAH: Okay.

KAYLA: What is your this is on buzzfeed, of course, obviously. Um, what's your ideal first date taking a ceramics class, browsing a bookstore, going to a football game, amusement park, baking something new together, a picnic on the beach

SARAH: Who's going first?

KAYLA: You can go

SARAH: Okay, I like the idea of going to an amusement park, but there is one fundamental issue with that

KAYLA: Mm-hmm

SARAH: waiting in line.

KAYLA: That would be awkward

SARAH: Because if you don't vibe correctly

KAYLA: Yeah, the amusement park feels like good third date to me.

SARAH: Yeah, I agree. I think taking a ceramics class could only go badly.

KAYLA: Okay

SARAH: because I get frustrated easily.

KAYLA: That's fair

SARAH: and I would get mad. I think we're gonna go to a bookstore.

KAYLA: Okay. Black Friday deals. When you're getting to know someone what's an immediate red flag? They don't like dogs, they're not on social media, they double tax their favorite movie is the Joker, they haven't read a book in years, their ideal date is going hiking

SARAH: Their favorite movie is the Joker. No question.

KAYLA: Yeah, that's fucked up. What's your relationship green flag? They have ambitious career goals, they always have snacks on hand, they have a playlist for every occasion, they get along well with kids, they always offer to carry the heavy bag, they love trying new foods

SARAH: Certainly not the last two or the last three really. Well I do think whether someone gets along well with kids is important even if I don't

KAYLA: Yeah, because it's like if a dog hates someone. Yeah, if a kid hates someone, they know something.

SARAH: Yeah, exactly

KAYLA: Because kids can see ghosts.

SARAH: Yeah, I don't hate kids as a concept. I just hate the idea of

KAYLA: having one. Yeah. You get along really well with kids.

SARAH: Yeah, they love me

KAYLA: because you are a child.

SARAH: Thank you

KAYLA: Mhm

SARAH: But I don't think you have to have ambitious career goals

KAYLA: No, I don't think so in this economy.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: Who dreams of labor?

SARAH: Yeah, I think you know what? I think they should have a playlist for every occasion

KAYLA: Which of these things would you order on a first date pizza, salad, steak, pasta, poke, tacos?

SARAH: The only thing – First of all, I'm not going to eat salad unless it's a lunch if it's dinner, I'm not having salad for dinner. Are you kidding?

KAYLA: Sure

SARAH: I'm gonna say pasta because I'm a very picky eater and that is the one thing in that list that I can safely eat

KAYLA: That’s fair

SARAH: without looking like a weirdo

KAYLA: Which love language do you use to show your affection for another person? Physical touch, giving gifts, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, all of these. Okay. They just needed a sixth option. That's nothing

SARAH: quality time.

KAYLA: Okay. Which love language do you prefer to receive?

SARAH: Quality time.

KAYLA: Okay.

SARAH: I don't like receiving any of the other things.

KAYLA: That's fair. Which of these aesthetics is most compatible with yours? Soft aesthetic,

dark academia, alternative, cottagecore, skater glam. Here's the thing because it's not asking what your aesthetic is. It's saying which one is compatible with yours? Well first, what's your aesthetic?

SARAH: I don't know. Of those?

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: I feel like several of them speak to me in different ways.

KAYLA: You know currently I would say you look alternative

SARAH: It's so true. It's swag. Um, I'm gonna say most compatible. Give me cottagecore. Okay. I think that would be a fun little Shenanigans.

KAYLA: What time of day is your favorite? Crack of dawn, late morning, around noon, afternoon, evening, night.

SARAH: evening

KAYLA: Which of these gifts would you want the least from a significant other? Spa day, expensive jewelry, ticket for a cruise, gym membership, book, gift card

SARAH: That's actually tough.

KAYLA: A lot of these are bad.

SARAH: I fundamentally would never want to go on a cruise.

KAYLA: Okay

SARAH: But anyone who buys me expensive jewelry.

KAYLA:  Yeah

SARAH: Unless it's something that I specifically said that I liked and wanted like if they just bought me expensive jewelry

KAYLA: yeah

SARAH: there's no way I like it.

KAYLA: No

SARAH: and it's a huge waste of money.

KAYLA: Yes.

SARAH: So I'm gonna have to say expensive jewelry. I guess a cruise could be

KAYLA: It could be a river cruise.

SARAH: Yeah, it doesn't have to be horrible

KAYLA: Which of this these vacation destinations would you choose to visit with your significant other new york, london, sydney, tokyo, Sao Paulo, dubai

SARAH: That's a great question. I'm gonna say not new york city for this whole reason of I've been there before. This is weird, but for some reason my brain is telling me tokyo, which is interesting because usually I would be afraid of that answer.

(25:00)

KAYLA: Okay

SARAH: because. Well, I would be afraid of many of these answers. But for me the big question is how well can I eat somewhere?

KAYLA: I don't know that you could eat

SARAH: and I don't know that I could eat well in tokyo

KAYLA: So which of these is a relationship deal breaker? They're best friends with an ex, their home is always messy, they're flaky with plans, they're a bad texter, they're not a family person, they're a picky eater

SARAH: If you're flaky with plans for a good reason

KAYLA: I feel like the word flaky though implies that it's for no reason

SARAH: It would annoy me if they're a bad texter, but I think flaky is worse

KAYLA: Which zodiac sign are you most attracted to fire signs, air signs, water signs, earth signs, It doesn't matter astrology is dumb

SARAH: astrology is dumb.

KAYLA: Okay. What's the first word you see in this word scramble?

SARAH: smart

KAYLA: That doesn't not look like me.

SARAH: Yeah it’s a person with glasses.

KAYLA: With dark hair. And like tannish skin

SARAH: Yeah. They definitely look non-white though.

KAYLA: That's true

SARAH: and you are unfortunately

KAYLA: unfortunately, but I feel like that doesn't not look like me

SARAH: Yeah, that's fair

KAYLA: That could be me.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: In another life. All right now I'm going to take it. I’m hoping for the pastiest bitch. Okay. my ideal date. I think a ceramics class would be a first good day first date. Okay, because it's an activity. So you don't there's like things to do and it's not as awkward.

SARAH: Yeah to be fair ceramics class could be good for me. It's just it also could be very bad. So yeah, it's a hit or miss.

KAYLA: That's true. tbt to the first date I went to an escape room two people doing an escape room

SARAH: Oh

KAYLA: Weird

SARAH: seems a little…

KAYLA: I guess it was technically the second date. It was like one and a half. Anyway, ceramics class. Excuse me. I was taking this quiz. Thank you. Immediate red flag. I also think favorite movie is joker. That's we can't do that. Yeah. Relationship green flag. I think they get along with kids. Because kids know stuff kids

SARAH: have a good vibe check

KAYLA: Where am I ordering on a first date? I think poke. I really enjoy a poke

SARAH: Okay, poke is scary

KAYLA: But that doesn't mean we have to like the same food. We just need to like compatible things

SARAH: Well, we can't go to a poke restaurant on the first date

KAYLA: There other restaurants have poke. It's not just a poke restaurant. I mean like a chinese or a japanese place

SARAH: That's true

KAYLA: and you can get noodles there.

SARAH: I could get fried rice fried rice.

KAYLA; Yeah places with fried rice have poke sometimes

SARAH: Okay, so it's fine.

KAYLA: I accept

KAYLA: Which love language do I use to show affection? I would probably say quality time. I prefer to receive the love language acts of service. I like things done for me because then I don't have to do

SARAH: that's fair the the service of me giving you a mountain dew

KAYLA: yeah, Sarah gave me a – she found a mountain dew jacket.

SARAH: It's like a mountain dew, like car racing style

KAYLA: car racing jacket. Yeah, and it's very good.

SARAH: I found it at a thrift shop and it's very good

KAYLA: Because I have my faygo jacket.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: I have two faygo jackets actually.

SARAH: Wow

KAYLA: And now I have a mountain dew jacket.

SARAH: Yeah, so that's actually not gift giving that's acts of service in the form of

KAYLA: Making my closet better.

SARAH: (laughing) Yeah

KAYLA: Yeah. Which aesthetic is most compatible with yours? I'm gonna say soft.

SARAH: Soft

KAYLA: I feel like soft is compatible with a lot of…

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: My favorite time of day I think is also evening. Which of these gifts would I want least from a significant other other a gym membership? I think that is a rude gift

SARAH: Mhm

KAYLA: Because I do not care for the gym.

SARAH: Yeah, I think it could be if it was discussed

KAYLA: I asked for it. It would be nice. Yeah, if it is not discussed that is rude because then you're saying I need to go to the gym. Yeah, which is never true because I hate the gym. For vacation destination, I'm also going to say Tokyo because I've always wanted to go to Tokyo.

Which is a relationship deal breaker? I think also flaky with plans because if you're someone that's flaky with plans like all the time

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: then that means you're like not respectful of my time.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: Yeah, if it's like sometimes

SARAH: Yeah, or if it's like brain very bad today, you can't do it like I get that

KAYLA: But if it's like for no reason or you just like made other plans, that's disrespectful.

SARAH: That's rude.

KAYLA: Which zodiac sign am I most attracted to? You're a Libra.

SARAH: Mhmm

KAYLA: Dean is uh cancer. Those are different

SARAH: What flavor is Libra?

KAYLA: air

KAYLA: I guess I see that for you. I'm just gonna say it doesn't matter. What's the first word I see in this scramble? Creative. I got the same person as her.

(25:00)

KAYLA: that Sarah did. I'm my soulmate.

SARAH: Maybe we both have the same soulmate and it's another person.

KAYLA: Oh

SARAH: And then we can be a thruple of soulmates.

KAYLA: That's very good

SARAH: I think this is it.

KAYLA: I think that's the answer. We've done it.

SARAH: Perfect

KAYLA: No, no. Can't believe we're not soulmates. What's the name of your soulmate?

SARAH: I have a lot of issues with these these like what's the name of your whatever because it's always so many names it’s always just like basic white people.

KAYLA: Oh, yeah, they don't do a variety of names

SARAH: Like what if what if my soulmate is named Neha?

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: What if my soulmate is named Khadija? What if my soulmate is named Mcdonk?

KAYLA: Mm. That one I'm not sure about. What is the name of your soulmate? Soulmates mostly people see it as a life partner or the one they'll marry, but they come in all forms could be – this is one sentence – Could be your best friend could be your sister or your brother could be anyone. Okay, so this one's

SARAH: That’s nice

KAYLA: Since you're here, we might be able to tell you his slash her name. Take this quiz if you haven't found yours yet. Alright. What's your favorite name? And at the top of this there's just pictures of generic white women. What's your favorite name? Stephanie slash Cameron ,Austin slash Emily, Caitlyn slash Ryan, Aaron slash Sandy

SARAH: I like how your mom's name and my sister's name are on there.

KAYLA: Yeah, I did notice that. What's your favorite name Sarah?

SARAH: of that? I think Caitlyn slash Ryan I guess because I feel like it's weird to say my sister's name

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: Because I mean they said that the soulmate can be a sibling, but

KAYLA: yeah

SARAH: my sister and I both have basic names

KAYLA: That’s very true

SARAH: And I don't want to, you know

KAYLA: What is your idealistic date? Romantic dinner followed by walk on the beach, lots of kissing, a trip to the club, A formal dinner in an expensive restaurant, a casual walk in the park

SARAH: a casual walk in the park

KAYLA: I don't like these questions. What is your passion? sports or writing, art or singing, dancing computers or reading?

SARAH: (laughing) Hold on. So art or singing are separate from dancing, but sports or writing are put together?

KAYLA: Yes, the people who like sports and or writing have the same soulmate.

SARAH: I guess sports or writing

KAYLA: Yeah, what is your idealistic book genre action slash advantage adventure or fantasy,

romance, sci-fi, realistic fiction

SARAH: (laughing) They separate action and adventure fiction or fantasy fantasy and sci-fi and sci-fi.

KAYLA: Yeah, what those go together in the bookstore

SARAH: I guess action slash adventure?

KAYLA: That's very silly. What's your favorite food, something casual? These are not types of food. Casual, something flavorful ,something tasteful, but fun something expensive and formal SARAH: something casual. Probably like chicken nugget.

KAYLA: Yeah. If you could write a song, what would it be about losing or finding love or just love in general? Pashing pat patting

SARAH: passion

KAYLA: partying just having fun in life something thoughtful and meaningful

because the rest of those because

SARAH: Something thoughtful and meaningful, Kayla.

KAYLA: Yeah that sounds just like you. Pick a clothing style that you like. Something I love, but I don't stand out too much, kind of preppy still somewhat basic, something fun. It stands out. I love it, maybe jeans and a t-shirt

SARAH: I think jeans and a t-shirt can be good though. It doesn't have to be plain.

KAYLA: Yeah.

SARAH: Yeah. Oh, what is that?

KAYLA: What is your hairstyle? medium length, dark, kind of curly slash long, dark and straight SARAH: wait. These are really different

KAYLA: Wait, but those are all different. medium length, dark, Kind of curly slash so it's long, but it's also medium length.

SARAH: I think it's saying if it's any of those

KAYLA: Oh. Okay, well is it one of those, light long straight hair, close crop darkest hair, something spunky, long red medium, dark straight. Um

SARAH: I like how there is no option for short. It's either medium or close cropped.

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: I guess this second one

KAYLA: Big yawn. How would you break up with someone? just be honest go up to them pull them aside and explain how you really feel, don't get somebody to do it for you. There's no way you could bear to do that, text call email them, break up? I'm not even dating anyone.

SARAH: No the last one actually.

KAYLA: Yeah, but it would have been the second.

SARAH: It would have been the second one

KAYLA: What kind of pets you like? dog dogs are awesome, a cat high maintenance wrong

Cats are literally so low maintenance.

SARAH: They're less high maintenance than dogs

(30:00)

KAYLA: High maintenance but fun to play with something fun like dog, maybe or a snake

SARAH: like dog, maybe? what huge

KAYLA: or a snake, something weird like a gerbil spelled wrong. I think maybe not.

SARAH: No, that's how you spell it.

KAYLA: Okay I’m stupid.

SARAH: I'm a dog

KAYLA: But or a snake?

SARAH: No, just just dog

KAYLA: It's like the state a statement that suits your personality. Fun loving, caring, kind, passionate. funny great friend, really good looking, talented, Fun loves parties partying trouble messing around with teachers. Okay.

SARAH: So the first one is fun loving the second one is just fun

KAYLA: Yes

SARAH: Yeah, and loves party.

KAYLA: Yes passionate and determined also foppish. Great friend, spontaneous funny and helps out the community.

SARAH: I think you have to answer this for me

KAYLA: They're literally all the same. They all have the same words. I would say you're the first one

SARAH: because I'm really good looking? so true

KAYLA: Here's your results. Aaron slash Gabe

SARAH: Hmm

KAYLA: Aaron and Gabe are really fun people to be around. Both of them are very talented. It's like they're talking about a specific Aaron and Gabe.

SARAH: Yeah, I do. I am friends with an Aaron

KAYLA: I feel like we know a Gabe

SARAH: Both of us?

KAYLA: No, no, you know a Gabe. Oh, Kyla knows a Gabe?

SARAH: my sister's high school's best friend’s brother is named Gabe

KAYLA: That's the one

SARAH: That's the one I see.

KAYLA:  I feel like I don't even know a Gabe.

SARAH: I don't know, but I know an Aaron.

KAYLA; Yes

SARAH: Yes, and they had a crush on me when we first met so

KAYLA: Could be

SARAH: They did recently have their four-year anniversary.

KAYLA; That's tough. So maybe not.

SARAH: With their girlfriend now

KAYLA: So maybe not.

SARAH: Yeah. Anyway. Well, are you gonna find out what yours is always?

KAYLA: Yeah. All right. Let's start. My favorite name. I think I'm also going to go with Caitlin slash Ryan.

SARAH: I don't like that spelling of Caitlin.

KAYLA: No, that's okay. My idealistic date

SARAH: I like how it's idealistic not ideal

KAYLA: I'm gonna say… I don't really like any of these. My idealistic date. I guess I'll say dinner and walk on the beach. That sounds nice. I guess. What's my passion? I'm gonna say art or singing because I like a little craft.

SARAH: Yeah, that's fair

KAYLA: Hmm ideal –  idealistic book genre. I will also say action, adventure or fantasy

SARAH: (laughing) or fantasy

KAYLA: my favorite food. Something flavorful like a chicken nugget. If I could write a song

I think it would be about partying and having fun. If I could write a song it would be like party in the usa, I think

SARAH: put your hands up.

KAYLA: Yeah, you know

SARAH: play my song

KAYLA: a clothing style. Something I love but I don't stand out too much. I guess

SARAH: sure

KAYLA: My hairstyle.

SARAH: (laughing) Unhinged

KAYLA: This one's so stupid. This one says curly, so I have to do this one.

SARAH: Yeah

Um, how would I break up with someone? I guess I would Just be honest. And say fuck you

SARAH: text call email

KAYLA: email

SARAH: imagine breaking up with someone over email in the lord’s year 2022

KAYLA: What kind of pet do I like? I want a cat. Which statement fits my personality, Sarah?

SARAH: I don't know what foppish means.

KAYLA: I think it means you're stupid

SARAH: Oh

KAYLA: I think foppish is like an old timey word for like when the idiot

SARAH: I think you're also the first one because you're hot.

KAYLA: Okay sounds good. . My soulmate is named Shannon slash Luke. Luke is the name of the CEO of my company

SARAH: Luke is the name of skywalker

KAYLA: (laughing) you know a shannon. Aaron’s partner

SARAH: Aaron’s partner is named shannon

Kayla: Wait, so maybe our soulmates are Aaron and shannon

SARAH: Oh my god

KAYLA: and we need to be in a quadruple

SARAH: Oh my god

KAYLA: call Aaron right now.

SARAH: This is this is life changing.

KAYLA: We've solved everything

SARAH: Oh my goodness.

KAYLA: So your soulmate is Aaron and mine is shannon, but they're also each other's soulmates. Yeah, we are each other's soulmates. Yeah, so it's

SARAH: oh my god. This is so exciting.

KAYLA: We've done it everyone. We've done it

SARAH:  great go team. I'm so happy for us.

KAYLA: I'm so tired.

SARAH: Kayla just laid down on the table

KAYLA: Doing a little lay

SARAH: Doing a little lay

KAYLA: Let me see. I'm gonna let me want um, yeah, okay. I will say though. No one that those neither of those ai generated pictures looked like Shannon Aaron though, so that's tough

(40:00)

SARAH: Oh my god, wiki how how to find your soulmate with pictures?

KAYLA: I love wiki how

SARAH: Oh, sometimes finding a perfect romantic match is based on luck. However, you are more likely to find a partner in your life by working on improving your attitudes of yourself love dating and relationships. Resist the temptation to find your soulmate by leaving it to the fates improve yourself and your dating strategies in order to increase the likelihood of finding your lover. One: finding potential soulmates enjoy being single

KAYLA: That's not the worst. It’s good advice.

SARAH: Yeah, it may seem counterintuitive. But it's important that you are happy and confident as a single person before you're ready to find your soulmate. Very good. Some ways for you to enjoy spending time with yourself include finding interesting hobbies. Valuing your friendships and family. That's good.

KAYLA: Oh

SARAH: pursuing an interesting stable career. What about an uninteresting?

KAYLA: An explosive career

SARAH: A career in explosives

KAYLA: Mm

SARAH: designing bombs. Practicing being confident and strong.

KAYLA: Oh, just kind of fake it till you make it, being strong

SARAH: Don't be strong. That's called going to the gym.

KAYLA: Yeah, it is get a gym membership

SARAH: Keeping a diary to help keep you focused and remind you of how far you come. To cultivate desirable traits and yourself make a list of traits you enjoy in a partner. Perhaps you are attracted to a good sense of humor or to a nice smile and try and cultivate your own nice smile

KAYLA: Oh, just look in the mirror and practice your smile for a while. Okay terrifying, you know

SARAH: So no matter what the trait consider how you might be able to embody that trait yourself. Moreover if you do not end up meeting your soulmate in this way you will still have improved yourself and learned new skills.

KAYLA: Like how to smile. Yeah.

SARAH: Three keep an open mind – Why is this person in this photo so against dating someone who's japanese?

KAYLA: Wait, yeah, what the hell? It's like it's a thought bubble of this person. There's like an x over someone wearing a japanese flag shirt.

SARAH: Yeah, it's a shirt with a japanese flag and it shows sushi and like uh, uh, what kind of flower is that?

KAYLA: blossom, cherry blossom

SARAH: cherry blossom. The and like the red are red architectural. What's it called? I don't remember what it's called. And with an x an x over it. Andd that's so specific to like it's not like I’m racist against asian people. It's like I specifically hate japanese people.

KAYLA: Wow, that's a choice

SARAH: It is especially important to avoid certain internal biases and prejudices

KAYLA: That's good. Um

SARAH: Take the time to get to know the person before you decide whether or not a relationship is worth pursuing. Four, steer clear of attached persons unless unless

KAYLA: polyamorous

SARAH: polyamorous

KAYLA: true

SARAH: If you meet a wonderful person who's in a relationship with somebody else resists the urge to have an affair

KAYLA: thank you

SARAH: Most relationships that begin with an act of infidelity do not last

KAYLA: That’s fair

SARAH: They are rooted in scarcity and wanting what you cannot have. More than a true affection wait until your ideal partner is single or kill their partner.

KAYLA: Perfect

SARAH: Yeah, okay develop your social network the more interesting friends you have the more interesting strangers you will meet through them. Expand your social networks some great ways to make like minded improve people. Yeah, joining a meet-up group participating in a hobby volunteering for your career. Your cause about joining an alumni organization cultivating the friendships and acquaintances you have and friends last dinner host a few parties reschedule a happy hour. Six be friendly. Some light flirting with someone you're attracted to is a great way to determine if they're attracted to you as well. Say yes to blind dates.

KAYLA: No

SARAH: No. Know how people flirt.

KAYLA: Mmm.

SARAH: I'm busy. Keep your online dating profile honest, but mysterious

KAYLA: (laughing) Mysterious

SARAH: Oh geez meet people in heart pounding places people are more likely to feel attracted to someone when they are in a situation of arousal

KAYLA: Feel like we've talked about this

SARAH: Suggesting the gym high places and horror films.

KAYLA: Have we not talked about this topic? When I was in a psych class there was like a study someone did of going to it was like a rope bridge type thing. There was like, you know, one of those ones is like kind of wobbly and high up

SARAH: Mhm

KAYLA; and they would like have someone like ask for

someone's number and people in like the scarier places were like more likely to say yes or something because it's more like. It's like your adrenaline Or whatever and then you oh, yeah. Okay, so it's like you're in like the adrenaline situation and then you associate feeling that way with the person rather than like the situations. Then you're like, oh, I must like them because I felt all like heightened or whatever

SARAH: That makes sense

(45:00)

KAYLA: Which is the only reason it makes sense to me that there's so much romance in like an action film because it's like, okay, you like trauma bonded or whatever.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: but also stop

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: this is fast and furious

SARAH: This is about family

KAYLA: This is a family program. So true.

SARAH: I like how it suggests horror films like you go to you go to a horror film to pick up a date

KAYLA; Yeah, like going to one as a date.

SARAH: Yeah

KAYLA: sure,

SARAH: but to find

KAYLA: to find one? weird

SARAH: weird.

KAYLA: Also, you just go up to someone in the theater like ey?

SARAH: I also like that's high places like do you just climb a mountain and like see who shows up?

KAYLA: I wonder if anyone's ever fallen in love on my Everest

SARAH: I feel like probably probably I mean and that's that's an intense situation

KAYLA: think about the – what's the musical about 9/11

SARAH: Come from away.

KAYLA: Yeah, all those people fell in love. Yeah, because they trauma bonded

SARAH: And except for those two that broke up that broke up

KAYLA: but they still love each other

SARAH: Sure, they're both named Kevin.

KAYLA: That's weird. Um

SARAH: 11 tell yourself that there's not one single person out there for you if there were only one person meant to fall in love with one other person then one out of every 10,000 people would then only one out of every 10,000 people would find true love during their lifetimes. We all know that this isn't true people fall in love and have beautiful relationships all the time. Do not become obsessed with finding the single best person for you instead make it your goal to develop close sustaining healthy and loving relationships. See if your soulmate might blossom

KAYLA: Wow

SARAH: in front of you instead of depending upon random chance to give you the one perfect person.

KAYLA: It's actually very good advice

SARAH: Yeah, many of the most satisfying kinds of love happen over a long period of time which indicates that soulmates become so over many years of getting to know one another

KAYLA: Wow

SARAH: How long is this article? Is this a section 2?

KAYLA: My god

SARAH: Transforming a potential soulmate into a lifelong soulmate.

KAYLA: What?

SARAH: Be skeptical of the term so we're gonna start skimming. Listen to your instincts

KAYLA: Okay

SARAH: Don't let perfect get in the way of good. Form a strong friendship, good put working through relationship, go on a double date? Go on a double date with another couple that can keep your own relationship passionate and loving. This effect is especially strong when you and your partner talk about intimate topics when the other with the other couple

KAYLA: I mean like I feel like being around other couples can be helpful because then you can like see how like they communicate or like that's how get

SARAH: hot tips

KAYLA: hot tips

SARAH: The next one is spoon after sex

KAYLA: Oh, also after care is important

SARAH: not cuddle after sex just

KAYLA: specifically spoon in you must spoon

SARAH: Have life goals in mind avoid relationship cycling. Oh, that's like breaking up making up breaking up.

KAYLA: Yeah, don't do that

SARAH: Pay attention feelings of calm and comfort. Okay, that was it.

KAYLA: Okay

SARAH: Phew

KAYLA: Oh that actually like an okay article.

SARAH: Yeah, there was some there was some good stuff in there

KAYAL: Thanks wiki How

SARAH: except for that one person who's really Japanese phobic

KAYLA: I thought that was weird, but they did say to not do that. Yeah

SARAH: Yeah, don't, don't be that bitch

KAYLA: don't do that. Yeah

SARAH: In conclusion, are we soulmates?

KAYLA: Yeah,

SARAH: okay

KAYLA: with Aaron and Shannon

SARAH: (laughing) with Aaron and Shannon. I will let them know posthaste

KAYLA: please

SARAH: Great. Kayla. What's our poll?

KAYLA: Are me and Sarah soulmates?

SARAH:  so true let us know.

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: We'd like everyone's outside input especially since most of you don't know us personally

KAYLA: Yeah, take your parasocial knowledge of us and decide

SARAH: and let us know

KAYLA: if we are soulmates. What if we hated each other actually? What if this was all a front? SARAH: that would be wild. That'd be a lot of effort. I'm too mentally ill for that

KAYLA: same

SARAH: What's your beef and your juice this week?

KAYLA: Oh. I haven't thought about any. Let me think. Give me a second

SARAH; my beef is that I got a text in the middle of this podcast and my co-worker being like shit. For some reason something was didn't show up correctly in my calendar and I missed the meeting and I was like, oh shit. but the person they were meeting with didn't email or like

KAYLA: that's weird.

SARAH: And so we were both like. Uh, anyway, so that's my beef is that was just annoying

KAYLA; strange

SARAH: My juice is – I'm trying to think of something other than cherry coke.

KAYLA: Yeah

SARAH: My juice is I got to go to my sister's wedding dress appointment fitting today. That's fun. KAYLA: There was a gay there.

SARAH: Yeah, maybe not. Not a gay specifically, but the

KAYLA: capital G gay

SARAH:  capital G gay. The seamstress seamster,

KAYLA: Seamsperson

SARAH: non-gendered seamstress. seamstress definitely gave off queer vibes.

KAYLA: Yes. I saw a picture.

SARAH: Yeah.

(50:00)

KAYLA: My beef is that. I had to get on a plane at like 5 a.m.

SARAH: That's too many

KAYLA: yesterday. And so I had to wake up at like 3:30 a.m

SARAH: That’s too many

KAYLA: And what was really upsetting about it is that the second literal the second. I stepped into my father's car as he picked us up my alarm for when I usually wake up went off which was just made it very poignant how early things had happened and I feel like I'm still catching up.

SARAH: I'm sorry. What time was that?

KAYLA: 8:10 a.m.

SARAH: Mm that’s rough.

KAYLA: Is when I usually wake up. Um, my juice is that I'm getting I get to eat all my good michigan food. Such as yesterday. I had culvers. Today we are eating coney island tomorrow. I'll be eating no time.

SARAH: Mhm.This is part of my beef. I – we got buddy's pizza. It's the best pizza in all the pizza.

KAYLA: Gross

SARAH: You're wrong.

KAYLA: Okay.

SARAH: But they put they put sauce on my pizza even though we told them not to
